Een tentoonstelling, zoals je vroeger in de 17^de en 18^de eeuw de Salon had; een ontmoetingsplek bij iemand thuis waar kunstenaars, schrijvers, filosofen en musici hun denkbeelden en werk uitwisselden. Zoiets als Facebook en Linkedin nu. Met deze tentoonstelling wil ik kunstenaars, kunstwerken en geïnteresseerden samen brengen. Niet op internet, maar in mijn huis. Een ongedwongen plek, voor iedereen toegankelijk, om elkaar te treffen, werk te bekijken en ideeën uit te wisselen. Een huis van boven tot onder gevuld met kunst van bekende en minder bekende, jongere en oudere kunstenaars. Er is een leestafel met boeken en catalogi.

Ik draag deze tentoonstelling op aan Hanny Korevaar en Armand Bouten, de vorige bewoners van mijn huis. Dankzij de bruiklenen van verzamelaar Jan Pieter Niemeijer en kunstenaar Sander van Deurzen, zal er van hen ook werk te zien zijn.

Vrijdag voordat we naar Incubate gingen nog even langs museum De Pont gegaan om de tentoonstelling Brabant Nu te bekijken, samengesteld door Het Wild Gillende Schildersgilde (voor insiders: Aaron van Erp, Wycher Noord en Frank Peeters). Een tentoonstelling waar aan Brabant gerelateerde kunstenaars is gevraagd om nieuw werk te maken met hun favoriete popsong als vertrekpunt. De werken zijn afzonderlijk van elkaar te zien in de wolhokken.

Op 16 april 2011 is de grootste en meest complete overzichtstentoonstelling van Andries Copier geopend.

Al een groot aantal jaren koestert het Nationaal Glasmuseum Leerdam de ambitie om uitgebreid aandacht te geven aan Nederlands belangrijkste glaskunstenaar van de 20e eeuw:

Andries Dirk Copier.

Honderdtien jaar nadat hij werd geboren; negentig jaar nadat hij zijn eerste ontwerpen tekende voor de Leerdamse glasfabriek; veertig jaar nadat hij de fabriek verliet en twintig jaar na zijn overlijden is het dit jaar zover.

Het Glasmuseum organiseert vanaf 16 april de grootste overzichtstentoonstelling met werk van Andries Copier ooit; publiceert in samenwerking met NAi Uitgevers een oeuvrecatalogus én lanceert het zogenoemde Copier Research Project, een online onderzoeksomgeving waar de ontwikkeling van de Nederlandse glaskunst wordt bestudeerd.

Materiaal van de CITO toets dit jaar. Het geeft kinderen een idee hoe ze een creatief proces kunnen aanpakken. De leerlingen krijgen de opdracht een werkstuk te maken waarin ze naar de sensatie van 'vliegen' moeten verwijzen. In het lesmateriaal wordt, als voorbeeld, het werk en de werkwijze van Leonardo da Vinci, Panamarenko, Aquil Copier en Tomas Saraceno besproken.

Cool Art project in Oslo. This project explores the invisible terrain of WiFi networks in urban spaces by light painting signal strength in long-exposure photographs. A four-metre tall measuring rod with 80 points of light reveals cross-sections through WiFi networks using a photographic technique called light-painting.

To me this is connected to the philosofical concept from Maurice Merleau-Ponty: Phenomenology of Perception, in which the body-subject is an alternative to the Cartesian 'cogito'.

Het idee voor de tentoonstelling ...GRATIE is ontstaan door de verwondering over de actuele status van de woorden 'immigratie'. Daar is nogal wat om te doen tegenwoordig. Voor kunstenaars is het door de eeuwen heen juist een bron van inspiratie geweest om in een ander land te gaan wonen en werken.

In deze tentoonstelling werk van kunstenaars die zich internationaal oriëntëren en in een ander land zijn gaan wonen en werken dan waar ze geboren zijn. Hier kan je spreken van immiGRATIE waarbij 'gratie' niets meer betekent dan aantrekkingskracht en aantrekkelijkheid.

Challenging the Myth of the Painter is a group exhibition of 20 painters connected with Unfold faves and companions, PRESENTeert. Founded in 2009 by painter Aquil Copier, PRESENTeert began as a platform for painters to highlight their dissertations, ramblings and manifestos. Inspired by the history and concept of artists’ writings, Copier invites painters to express themselves in written form – to use writing, as well as their art, to communicate. To examine the relation between their visual and textual practice.

The idea for this exhibition is a simple one: you've read the rants and reasons, now come see the art.

In the exhibition, new and old works of the painters are displayed floor to ceiling. They literally fill the space. In a dizzying range of style and technique, ranging from abstract to figurative, from simple and effective to complex and ambitious, this show gives a fantastic overview of painting today. More immediately evident is the range and talent of artists and painters working in the Netherlands at the moment.

In kuS presenteert iva gueorguieva een grootschalige installatie van nieuwe en oudere tekeningen. Door het gebruik van verschillende overlappende beelden in combinatie met persoonlijke en kalligrafische tekens creëert ze een driedimensionale ruimte. Ze tonen een verbinding van tegengestelden: abstractie en figuratie, in ongewone nieuwe combinaties. Door het combineren van recente en vroegere werken zoekt Gueorguivia naar betekenisvolle verbanden dwars door ruimte en tijd.

Geïnteresseerd in crossdisciplinaire samenwerking heeft ze kunstenaars uit de regio en de Randstad uitgenodigd. o.a. Aquil Copier, Martijn van Erp, Patricia Kaersenhout en Joanneke Meester. Zes dagen lang mogen ze in de vorm van een werk reageren op haar installatie. Ook bezoekers en bewoners van Parkstad mogen hun bijdrage leveren. Deze worden eveneens in de installatie verwerkt. De kunstenaar sluit daarmee aan bij de wens van kuS om het creatieve proces van de kunstenaar inzichtelijk te maken.

De wereld waarnemen

De titel van deze tentoonstelling komt van het gelijknamige boek van de Franse filosoof Maurice Merleau-Ponty.

De filosofische stroming waartoe Merleau-Ponty zich rekent, de fenomenologie, wil ons de wereld zoals wij die in de waarneming ervaren laten herontdekken.

De waarneming van de werkelijkheid is vaak het onderwerp geweest van onderzoeken in zowel de kunst, de filosofie als de wetenschap. Tegenwoordig, dankzij de ontwikkeling van digitale media (sociale netwerken, video-games zoals “World of Warcraft”, en bijvoorbeeld de software “Google Earth”), blijkt dat de werkelijkheid en de virtuele wereld elkaar constant overlappen. Deze vermenging vind ik interessant en biedt volgens mij ruimte om opnieuw te onderzoeken wat “waarneming van de werkelijkheid” betekent. Volgens mij ligt hier een uitdaging voor de schilderkunst. Door landschappen te schilderen op een onorthodoxe manier wil ik hierop reflecteren. Tijdens de Renaissance werd een schilderij gezien als een venster op de wereld, mijn schilderijen nu, zijn een venster op de wereld als een mogelijke werkelijkheid.

These are some previews of a serie of works with almost or no structure, just oilpaint blurred out and spraypaint... They are assembling vague imagues of landscapes taken by common software like Google-Earth. While "flying" over the world in motion the processor and screen are not quick enough to build up the image on the screen, because of the movement... But what you see are landscape paintings!! Hell yeah, painting, the so called slow medium!

You stand in a room with a big black painting. Behind you in the wall there are 4 small cameralenzes visible in the wall. On the right side there are some security monitors. On the monitors you see yourself (me and michiel van der zanden) in front of the painting, but on the screens the black painting is replaced by a painting of a landscape... Isn't it magic? ;-)

I started my first paintings of aerial views in 2003 when I was travelling very often by airplane between the south of Europe Italy and Holland. During my flights I was fascinated by the striking differences between the landscape views from my country and Italy. When you are travelling above Italy you see a very different landscape then in the Netherlands: this is of course because Holland is a flat land, and Italy has a great variety of altitudes there are alps, mountains, hills, etc. When you see Italy from above, you do not have the perception of clear structures. You rather see plots of streets and countryside -urban and natural landscapes strangely intermingled. In short, you see that the Italian landscape is much less designed than the Dutch one: and you start wandering if those differences of views can actually express the different cultural and historical origins of the two countries. 

Still what interests me is not a mere representation 1:1 of those impressions related to a political and social history of landscape, or urban planning. I would say that i use this bird views as a motif, or even better as a trigger. an appearance of the surface of the painting which allows me to catch the attention of the observer and trigger his reaction. A reaction which is at the same time physical and intellectual - which involves his body, his senses as well as his mind. By using an image which is 'likely' to be representing a real landscape, I trigger the attention of the viewer: but when he gets closer, he can realize that what he sees might be very different than what he first had thought. What happens is a literally physical and mental zooming-in and out of the painting and of people belief. 

What is at the core of my art is basically the idea that there is an intrinsic ambiguity of whatever representation of reality. In the process of looking at my paintings which involves the viewer's mind and his senses-body the emphasis is put on the traveling, on the wanderings of the eyes of the viewer along my painting, and on his capacity of reacting with his/her own imagination and beliefs to what he sees. In short, there is a questioning if that part of the image belongs, or correspond to a REAL concrete object or situation existing in reality.
